This extension is the official connector integrating Magento 2 with Avalara's AvaTax API for enterprise level tax calculation and reporting. I worked on key aspects of the upcoming release including converting the integration to REST and implementing cross-border tax capabilities.
Vaporbeast.com needs to be in full compliance with the complexities of excise taxes that apply to tobacco products. Avalara offered a service and API with robust and flexible support for excise tax scenarios but did not yet have an available Magento connector. I was the chief architect and the primary developer on a Magento module to connect with Avalara's API and implement accurate excise rate lookups for the client's eCommerce site.
Created a module that would store tax rates within the application DB to increase performance during estimates while checkout would request most accurate rate from tax service as normal.
