Kalen interviews Benno and checks out a demo on Cobby. Some really interesting use cases around import/export to Magento, pricing, images, translations, multi-store, and a lot more.
Riese und Müller is a high quality E-Bike manufacturer. We created a complex solution to handle more than 1.2 million combinable product options. The options are handled by an own Magento product type. The solution contains an embedded single page application based on AngularJS. Imports/Exports and the communication of the frontend components are driven by a clever designed REST interface.
Liebherr is one of the largest construction machinery manufacturers in the world. By 2015 the company had grown to over 41,500 employees, with total annual sales of 9.2 billion Euros. An OpenSource tool for importing products, category and customers fast and easily. It uses the core Mage_ImportExport functionality and adds new features on top, like importing categories and bundle products. It is often used as a base for custom importers.
This pre-processor parses an .xlsx file (or similar feed) with products for a Magento import, specifically Magmi. The headers can be mapped to predefined functions and variables which makes it very configurable. After that, they can be mapped back to the necessary entity's for Magmi / Magento or any other importer. It also finds and links images, modifies prices, makes couples in simple and configurable products and detects which attributes to use and so on, validate input etc. It's basically a matter of writing the extra logic you need in the designated class and map some values in yaml files. Most frequent used functions and validations are already there. The pre-processor is the result of a project that kept changing it's specs which made it complex and bloated. I recently did a complete refactor which made it pretty useful. It processes ~50k products with each 40 attributes, images, simple / configurables etc. in 5 minutes. I will expand it's features whenever i need and maybe open-source it soon.
The objective of M2IF is to provide a fully functional replacement for the Magento 2 standard import functionality with a 100 % CSV file compatibility. In contrast to other approaches, the framework is not build as a Magento 2 extension, although it has no dependencies to other frameworks like Symfony, Laravel or others. Instead, it provides independent components, that can be tied together as needed, by adding them as composer dependency.
A simple command line implementation should give a brief overiew of how a simple import application could look like. For more information, have a look at the M2IF - Simple Console Tool repository
Import performance is one of the main topics, as in many, especially the bigger projects with more than 100.000 products, the necessary time to keep the catalog up to date, may always be a bottleneck or an issue.
