Our hypothesis was that by helping customers get to products faster, they will buy more. This was validated by a 10% conversion rate increase (for those who searched), and an overall 3% sales increase.
We used Algolia as the search provider. It is very fast, but their Magento module was not built with the best coding standards. As such, we also rebuilt the majority of the frontend for the search auto-complete, making auto-complete even faster.
Started by Jeroen, this project grew to be a much used project to improve Magento search. During development, I jumped in to develop some features and make some improvements.
B2B (small business) / B2C (DIY) electric supplies webshop with many optimizations: "bought together with" in shopping cart. Smart, per state/status, coloured order overview. Smart search. All optimizations were based on smart indexes.
Due to the seasonal nature of the business, custom shipping rules we're very complex and tied into every product on the site. The checkout was highly customized to allow logic for pre-orders and split checkout based on what type of products the customer contained in their cart. The custom shipping rules where very granular based on days and weeks of the year since certain products only grew during specific time of the year.
The project included both front-end and back-end development improvements, bug fixes and close collaboration with the client to ensure each requirement was fulfilled precisely.
